Une mthode indirecte pour cartographier les gaz brls dans un moteur allumage command a t dveloppe. Elle est fonde sur une visualisation partir de la fluorescence induite par laser (LIF) du mlange air-carburant non brl et ensemenc avec du biactyl. Les gaz brls provenant la fois des recirculations internes et externes sont observs. Ce type de diagnostic est complmentaire des techniques de LIF utilises pour observer la distribution du carburant. Ces mesures de concentration sont ralises dans un moteur 4 soupapes avec accs optiques, pour une gamme tendue de conditions opratoires. Celles-ci comprennent des variations des modes d'injection du carburant et des modes de recirculation des gaz brls, provoquant ainsi diffrents types de stratifications qui correspondent des dgagements d'nergie et des missions de polluants trs distincts. Le niveau de "tumble" et l'emplacement de l'tincelle sont aussi modifis. L'observation de la stratification telle qu'elle est rellement dans le moteur constitue un moyen pertinent pour expliquer ses performances. Les paramtres permettant d'optimiser les niveaux de NOx et d'HC peuvent en tre dduits, de mme que l'efficacit des stratgies de recirculation et d'injection du carburant. Les rsultats des visualisations ont t confirms par des mesures obtenues dans un moteur monocylindre muni d'une culasse conventionnelle avec la mme gomtrie de chambre de combustion.
